Your body deserves more
"Bodywork is something we receive to love ourselves and our bodies. Compassionate touch, or 'the laying of hands', is the ultimate gift of love and generosity. Be generous to yourself. It is when we are completely still and present that we are alive."

I have been a Certified Massage Therapist since 1991. I received my training in Acupressure, Deep Tissue, and Swedish massage therapy at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA and the San Francisco School of Massage, where I have been a teaching assistant. I have also trained with Aaron Parnell, former massage therapist for the U.S. Olympic games; Art Riggs, in deep tissue therapy; and Daniel Fowler of Maui, HI, in Lomi Lomi massage. I continue to take bodywork classes as ongoing education and dedication to my work.
I originally entered into this work because the power of touch has personally healed as well as enriched my life. My passion and philosophy is to offer an environment for safe, non-judgmental, non-sexual bodywork to people of ALL sizes, sexualities, and gender identities. I am very dedicated to my work and love what I do.
My Philosophy
We are sentient beings, and without the warmth of touch to link and soothe us, we are denied one of our most vital ways of communicating - giving and receiving.
Some people believe bodywork is a luxury, and call upon it only in times of dire need. Unfortunately, that mentality can lead to mental and physical breakdown. No matter how we live our lives, we all need human touch, deserve compassion and understanding as a daily comfort.
BODYWORK is vital to leading a healthy and balanced life. We all deserve skilled therapeutic touch. I love giving people their very first massage and introducing them to their personal body healing journey. I love and honor the ongoing relationships between me and my clients.
I am blessed to be a bodyworker. To have the opportunity to work with as well as learn from such a diverse and wonderful clientele has deeply enriched my life as a bodyworker as well as a person.

Acupressure
Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago. It is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine which emphasizes preventing illness, dealing in depth with underlying causes, and treating the whole person.
An acupressurist works with the same points used in acupuncture called acupoints - stimulating these healing sites with finger pressure, rather than inserting fine needles. Acupressure uses the power and sensitivity of human touch to eliminate stress, relieve pain and alleviate acute and chronic conditions. It can be effective in the relief of many complaints such as arthritis, headaches, neck and shoulder tension, back pain, sciatica, infertility, sinus and breathing problems. By stimulating the body's natural curative abilities, it also works as a powerful preventative therapy and is a safe and effective complement to conventional healing methods.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a technique used primarily to induce general relaxation while improving circulation and range of motion.
Through a sequence of long flowing strokes choreographed as a dance, the action of this massage technique promotes recovery from stress and prevents the onset of illness. The massage is applied on bare skin using a base lubricant to allow the hands of the practitioner to glide on the skin easily.
The massage improves circulation, which can help reduce swelling from injury and enhance the efficiency of the lymphatic system controlling the immune response. Massage facilitates the elimination of toxins from tired muscles to relieve aches and pain. It breaks adhesions from scar tissue restoring flexibility of motion.
Swedish massage is successful in relieving a variety of complaints: discomfort associated with chronic muscle tension, stiff joints, some forms of mild paralysis, sciatica, fractures, sprains, strains and overworked muscles.
Swedish massage is often associated with passive exercise of the muscle structures, which is of significant benefit for individuals with a limited range of motion due to illness or temporary immobilization. Recipients of massage often report a sense of relaxation, energy and heightened well-being.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue Massage is a specific type of body therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Also helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue.
Deep tissue massage applies specific and firm pressure to the muscles, by using fingertips, knuckles, palm of the hands, forearms and elbows. This technique usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage, but if it's done right the client should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Hand and Foot Reflexology
Reflexology is similar to acupressure techniques, but it is performed on the feet & hands. Each foot & hand has "zones" that correspond to reflex points, that when stimulated with pressure, causes stimulation in the natural energy of the related organ.
* Stress reduction, profound relaxation, for all parts of the body
* Pain reduction and pain elimination
* Improved circulation resulting in better oxygen and nutrient supply to all the cells of the body
* Detoxification, improved organ and gland function
* Normalization of body functions
* Prevention by reducing accumulated stress in the body before health challenges develop

A. Raia, San Francisco
"I had never received a professional massage before going to Red. I was always too shy or felt too uncomfortable to let someone see and touch my large body. But Red encourages women of all sizes to utilize Red's services. I felt very comfortable with Red and the massage was awesome. I was so relaxed the rest of the day I was a puddle wherever I sat. I can't wait to get another one!"
Brianna, San Francisco
"Red's hands are powerful but can also be gentle -- and somehow they are always warm! Red has a very grounded presence that puts one at ease. Red also has a great smile. I would recommend Red to anyone!"
Beth Terry, Berkeley
"I work in San Francisco with the homeless and formerly homeless community. I also have a 2 year toddler who is off the hook all of the time. Needless to say that my life is a stressful one. When I first came to Red, I could not move my shoulders or arms at all. The word PAIN was my mantra. Because of Red's wonderful work I can now move everything and I am no longer in pain. With Red's therapy I have at least 2 hours every month where I can relax, rest, escape, enjoy, and truly take care of myself. This is how I have helped to heal myself and I will continue for a lifetime. Red's kindness has always made me feel comfortable and Red's genuine concern for my welfare speaks volumes."
Denise Jackson, Oakland
"Red not only helped me heal my very injured lower back, but has excised pain and stress from my body on many occasions with Red's magical healing room of light. Red's even played the same song over and over for me! Above and beyond most massage I have experienced, Red has an intense but very safe feeling touch; I send all of my butch and trans pals Red's way. Yay Red!"
P. Fox, San Francisco
"I felt very comfortable in Red's massage studio. The table (for once) was wide enough to accommodate my whole body comfortably and Red's demeanor really put me at ease. I strongly recommend Red's massage services for any woman, particularly women of size. Plus, the walk up that Dolores Park hill will really warm your muscles up nicely! heehee. And you will absolutely float back down..."

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have allergies or have sensitive skin?
I have both lightly scented and unscented massage lotions. Also, please feel free to bring your own lotion or oil.
Must I be completely undressed?
For a full body Swedish massage, most people undress completely. This doesn't mean that your modesty is ever compromised. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. If at anytime you feel undraped or cold please let me know. Only the area being massaged will be exposed. Massage is all about feeling safe and relaxed, so whatever boundaries are natural and appropriate for you will of course be observed.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
The extent of a massage will depend on several factors, including the length of the session, the specific need for treatment, and your comfort level. Usually a full body massage will include work on your back, neck, head, shoulders, backs and fronts of your legs, feet, arms, and hands. I am happy to finish off with a light facial and scalp massage, just ask :) If you are uncomfortable with being massaged in any area, just inform me at the beginning of your session and I will adjust the massage accordingly.
What is your address?
I am located near 20th and Church Streets. I give massage in my home office; I will send you the address when you confirm your appointment.
What type of massage do you give?
Our societal conditioning often causes us to equate touch or nudity with sex. So there is no confusion, my massage is therapeutic and completely non-sexual. The practitioner-client relationship is a professional, healing one. Sexual intention is a violation of the bond of trust that is a prerequisite for true healing.
How do I schedule an appointment?
If you would like to schedule an appointment, fill out the Contact Form and let me know why you are seeking massage, any concerns or questions you may have, and what time and day you prefer. Please inform me of any medical condition or injury you feel I should know about. I am available Monday through Friday evenings from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
